Timrod Library Archive
Restoration Project
The Timrod Archive "An Overview"
June 22, 3:00 p.m.
Landmarks in Timrod Library History
Sept. 7, 3:00 p.m.

The archive of the Timrod Library dates back to 1897 with the minutes of the first meeting of the Library’s founders, the Summerville Chautauqua Literary and Science Circle, and continues to the present.
Thanks to a grant from South Carolina Humanities, the Timrod Literary and Library Association was able to create and fund the Timrod Library Archive Restoration Project to have the Library’s historic records organized, cataloged, and safely stored to ensure their preservation.
The Library is fortunate to have Kari Roueche, a professional archivist, on our Library staff. Kari has been working diligently for several months and has now completed the project.
The purpose of the archive restoration – as well as protecting and preserving the Library’s historic documents – is to make them accessible for research and to shed a light on the local and regional history intertwined in the story of the Timrod Library.
Kari will present stories from the archive and display artifacts and documents from Library history in two presentations for the public:
  • "The Timrod Archive: An Overview," at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 22
  • "Landmarks in Timrod Library History" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7
Tickets for each event are $10 for Timrod Library Members and $15 for non-members. Tickets will be available at the Library in person or by phone (843) 871-4600 beginning May 29.
Both events will be in the Catherine Stewart Room at the Library, followed by a light reception.

The Timrod Library Board is grateful to South Carolina Humanities for their support of this project. South Carolina Humanities is a not-for-profit organization, supporting literature, history, culture and heritage programs with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy demands wisdom.
