Nonprofit Management/Fundraising Internship
Position Description:
The nonprofit management/fundraising intern shadows the library’s Executive Director and Timrod Board members who oversee efforts for the library. The Executive Director and Committee Chairs are responsible for coaching the intern on Timrod brand standards and history. The intern can expect to plan, develop, and execute library initiatives with an emphasis on fundraising. The intern will research and present additional fundraising opportunities with step-by-step processes for execution. The intern will review library policies and identify gaps in procedures or areas that may need to be reevaluated. The intern will shadow the Board President in nonprofit management practices and leadership decisions.
The intern will be given leadership opportunities throughout the extent of the program, as well as the opportunity to make decisions and take extensive responsibility for the library’s fundraising efforts. Our hope is that your time with us is spent gaining real-world knowledge, skills, and preparation.
Many people attracted to this position desire to learn nonprofit and small business management, to develop leadership skills, to develop skills as an individual contributor, and to develop a portfolio for future use.
Objectives:
Research and develop attainable fundraising opportunities.
Create and oversee a fundraising event.
Create and oversee a snail mail or email fundraising initiative.
Research successful fundraisers executed by similar cultural institutions and report the findings.
Learn the differences between Leadership and Management.
Bring new perspectives to policies and procedures while maintaining the Library’s mission and goals.
Research grant opportunities and learn how to apply for one as a nonprofit.
Develop your resume to include key results driven by your internship.
Requirements:
Proactive desire to go above and beyond role requirements.
Proven aptitude in troubleshooting, problem solving, and the ability to exercise good judgment on a daily basis.
Ability to identify projects, work, and areas of opportunity and to prioritize work appropriately and independently.
Desire to innovate and redesign approach.
Knowledge of basic management and fundraising practices.
Self-motivated.
Proven leadership skills (leading self and leading others) with the ability to influence, inspire, and lead from any role.
Desire to grow and be developed on an individual level.
Attention to detail.
College junior or senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Expected Hours:
Our hours of operation are 10:00 am - 5:00 pm (Monday - Friday) and 10:00 am - 2:00 pm (Saturday), with the occasional Sunday or after-hours event. Internship schedules will fit for both parties. An interns’ weekly schedule will be modified to balance any after-hours event that requires their presence.
Dates of Internship:
Fall internships are available. Specific dates will be determined during the interview process. All internships are approximately 12 weeks in length.
Paid Internship:
Thanks to a grant awarded by the Saul Alexander Foundation, all 2025 internships will be paid.
Summer interns work 20 hours/week and are paid $1,000 per month.
Pay for fall or spring internships is determined during the interview process, based on the hours one can work.
