Dolly Parton Imagination Library
The Timrod Library is an affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which sends books to children from birth to 5 years, free of charge. We are approaching our fundraising goal to begin enrolling children in our area in this vital program. A gift of $30 sponsors one child for one year. Donations of any amount can make a difference in the early literacy of a child. See the Imagination Library page on the Timrod website for more information about how you can help! Porch Stroll Benefit We're pleased to announce that the Summerville Bed and Breakfast Association has chosen the Timrod Library as the beneficiary of their inaugural Porch Stroll from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 12. Attendees at this event, in honor of National Iced Tea Day, will sip iced tea on some of Summerville’s most beautiful southern porches. The eight locations on the stroll itinerary will include several bed and breakfast inns and historic locations, including the Timrod Library. At each porch location, hosts will offer delectable treats and experiences including historic gardens, farm animals, live music, and artwork by local artists. In addition, several merchants in downtown Summerville will offer discounts to Porch Stroll attendees. Tickets are $30 per person and will be available on the Timrod Library website. Proceeds benefit the Library. Space for this special event is limited. Please click here to visit our Porch Stroll page on the Timrod website for more information. This event will take place rain or shine. Generous Support for Imagination Library The Timrod Library is an affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a literacy program that provides books for children up to five years. As an affiliate, the Timrod Library identifies children and raises funds to send books in the 29483 ZIP code. Timrod Board member Marcia Jonczak, who heads up this effort for our Library, reports on recent donations:
These donors are helping the Timrod Library to launch the Imagination Library to enhance literacy and provide access to books for thousands of children in Summerville and Dorchester County. Thank you! Visit the DPIL page on the Timrod website for more about this program. Share Your Stories As well as holding many stories on its shelves, the Timrod Library, founded in 1897, is also home to many personal stories for our members. What is your Timrod Library story? If you have a memory or photo of the Timrod Library you would like to share, please go to this post on the Timrod Library Facebook page. Visit us on Facebook to share your memories and to read stories from other members. We can't wait to hear from you! (Photo: A vintage postcard features the Timrod Library.) Books for Sale Need a gift for a book-loving friend, or a good book to fill that gap in your bookshelf? (You know you've got one!) Come browse the sale shelf of gently used books in the front room of the Library. Hardcover books are $2, and paperbacks are 75 cents each or two for $1. Needed: Helping Hands For the Porch Stroll event on June 12, we need volunteers at the Timrod Library to serve food and drinks, manage gift sales, give tours, and sign up new members. Contact library director Carol Scally at (843) 871-4600 or at [email protected]. (Please put Porch Stroll Volunteer in the subject line.) Come See What's New Need something new to read? We are always adding more titles to our collection at the Library, so come see our latest books! Look for the "New Books" signs or ask one of our volunteers where you can find the latest additions to our adult and children's reading selections. |
